beijing memories

more than a quarter had passed since the last blog entry and i couldnt find any other perfect timing to write again. the previous entry was about the unexpected circumstances of meeting again (after OUTS and with the exception of those planned KK trips), with universe conspiring to make it all happen: the beijing and the arizona trips.

it's unusual that i havent been able to find time to write anything about those trips. i guess too much things going on at the same time make it less of a priority, but it doesnt mean they're any less memorable. for one, those trips were attached to business and upon coming home, i was usually loaded with tons of post-biz trip work. expectations have to be met and ROIs realized. i did post the photos in either my multiply or facebook and a few on friendster, hoping the photos would speak of how special those events had been.

yang and i only exchanged a few emails and had chat maybe a couple of times about the bj plans. it usually just contained confirmation of final dates and any changes on my flight schedules if any. all he needed to hear from me was when im coming and just a couple of things i needed to hear from him -- 1) i'll be in the airport to pick you up and 2) i've set our itinerary.

flying from chengdu to beijing, still tired and hung-over (from a packed work agenda and lots of walking and hanging out after work hours with chengdu friends) ... i was traveling just to get my physical self to the next destination. all i can think of was how fun it was getting to know people i consider friends in chengdu and i felt i havent had enough of the wine, good food and poker game from the previous night, thus i didnt want to leave chengdu yet. i got my emotions back when i walked out of the airport and saw yang, standing tall as ever against the crowd, with a big wide smile (almost like a grin) on his face. im pretty sure the 'grin' was for my curly hair, which he's been so looking forward to seeing in real life. hahaha!!!

instead of writing about the trip blow-by-blow, here's a list that yang and i came up with and agreed to save in our long-term memory bank

jason's list
- picking me up at the airport - you just can't hide your BIG smile :D
- the bus rides - i remember spotting 3 cute faces in our bus rides
- the taxi rides - nothin special really .. hahaha!
- the subway rides - remember the lady who was throwing up and refused the water i was offering to her? hahaha!
- the mini tricyle rides -- with malu? ofcourse you love how the seat vibrates hahahaha!!!
- the exchange gifts - remember, what matters is that it comes from the heart :)
- the dinner with shirley
- the billiards -- yea yea .. you're the master snooker man!
- the great wall - amazing and fun!!! the photos are the proofs.
- the olympic village that isnt complete yet - we still have nice photos there.
- the starbucks hangout and talk - probably one of the best things we did.
- the forbidden city - even though i feel like my feet are going to fall apart ... it was fun! remember the honeymoon bed? the big jar where we stuck our fingers? the ugly concubine? the english audio guide which costs 4x more than the chinese audio guide? hahahahahaa!!!
- the karaoke - c'mon!!! great food, great music, great voices .... right here waiting for you!!! tong hua!!! ofcourse, all of them captured in video.
- the foooood!!! - there's just too many to mention. what i remember the most is the "flat" donuts that we brought home from partyworld. hahahaha!!!
- and ofcourse ... the underwear! -- yes, i wear underwear. hahahaha!!! BWAHAHAHAHAH!!!

yang's list
- In the airport shuttle, you had the very first impression on BJ and I had the impression on your curly hair, you know I need transition time from “bald” memory to “curly long” reality.
- In the taxi, you witness my “quarrelling” against the driver.
- On the auto-tricycle, I guess I can see the fat waves on your butt, if you took off your (two) underwears, because of the vibration.
- On the super-shuttle bus, I did envy the girl who was sitting besides that white-beauty.
- In our last taxi to the airport, I had a mixed feeling, mixed by sleepinesss and sadnesss.

As i recall the fun memories in beijing, i sit here typing and smiling.

Some quotable quotes:

"I believe I will never lose them unless comets crash the earth." - yang talking about the pictures saved on his memory drive

"Yes, I'm wearing underwear" - jason's answer when jessica asked if he was wearing any underwear. ofcourse jessica was referring to thermal underwear.

arizona trip blog - to follow. not a good time to write about it now.
